A machinist working at Petann Engineering Ltd, you would likely be expected to perform the following duties:

• Review Technical Documents: Analyse samples, drawings, or instructions to understand the specifications of the required output. 

• Plan Machining Operations: Determine the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job, ensuring efficiency and accuracy. 

• Set Up and Operate Machines: Select appropriate machines (e.g, milling and turning machines) and position or load material for a job, operating automated equipment. 

• Program CNC Machines: Input and adjust machine settings, such as speed and feed rates, to produce precision parts according to specifications. 

• Monitor Production: Oversee the machining process, making adjustments as necessary to maintain temperature, ensure proper feed, and identify any issues that arise. 

• Inspect Finished Products: Check output to ensure consistency with specifications, using precision measuring tools, and discard or rework defective units.

• Maintain Equipment: Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages to ensure optimal operation of machinery. 

• Ensure Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organised work environment to prevent accidents and ensure efficient operations. 

• Collaborate with Team Members: Work closely with colleagues to meet production goals and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

As an apprentice, you will be trained in all aspects of the above and receive mentorship and close supervision.

WORKING HOURS PER WEEK

Mon to Thur 07:30 to 16:30 Friday 07:30 to 12: 45 Morning Break 10 minutes Lunch Break 30 minutes - unpaid Afternoon Break 10 minutes

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Minimum grade 4 GCSE pass in maths, English

• Good verbal and written communication skills 

• Ability to follow detailed instructions 

• Good understanding of basic mathematical principles 

• Willingness to learn new skills and support colleagues 

• Good organisation skills and the ability to work on own initiative 

• Mechanical aptitude 

• The ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure, meeting tight deadlines in a team and as an individual.
