Preston College to host ‘Young Enterprise Competition’ as part of Lancashire College’s Skills Competition Programme

Preston College is proud to announce its role as the host for the upcoming inaugural Young Enterprise Competition, scheduled to take place on March 13, 2024.

This event is part of the first ever Lancashire Colleges’ Skills Competition Programme (sponsored by the Lancashire Skills Hub and Future U) and will showcase the entrepreneurial skills and talents of young people across the region.

As one of the leading educational institutions in Lancashire, Preston College is dedicated to teaching and evolving the next generation of business leaders and innovators.

Fiona Birchett-Sharpe, Head of School for Service Industries says: “We are thrilled to be hosting the Young Enterprise Competition. This event highlights our commitment to nurturing the entrepreneurial talents of learners, allowing them to turn their innovative ideas into successful ventures.”

The competition will feature teams from various colleges across Lancashire, each vying for the coveted title of Young Enterprise Champion. Participants will showcase their business concepts, marketing strategies, financial plans, and prototypes before a panel of esteemed judges, demonstrating their readiness to tackle real-world challenges and opportunities.

In addition to the competition itself, attendees can look forward to interactive workshops, guest speakers, and networking sessions designed to inspire and empower the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Fiona adds: “The Young Enterprise Competition promises to be an exciting and inspiring event, showcasing the immense potential and talent of young entrepreneurs in Lancashire.

“By hosting events like the Young Enterprise Competition, the College aims to provide learners with practical experience, mentorship, and networking opportunities; essential for success in today’s competitive business landscape.”

There are nine different competitions within this.  Each competition is being hosted by a different college – all taking place over a fortnight between 12 and 22 March:

12 March – Automotive Competition at Blackburn College

13 March – Young Enterprise Competition at Preston College

14 March – Health and Social Care Competition at Nelson and Colne College AND Sport Competition at Runshaw College

15 March – Childcare Competition at West Lancashire College AND Engineering Competition at Blackpool and The Fylde College

18 March – Hair and Beauty Competition at Lancaster and Morecambe College

20 March – Digital Competition at Nelson and Colne College

22 March – Construction Competition at Burnley College
