Tilers add that extra special finishing touch to a project. It's where everything comes together and getting it done right is always a top priority. That's why tilers are always in high demand. 

This Level 1 course offers you the opportunity to develop your hands on skills and knowledge required in to work in this industry, helping to improve your employability and get you into employment.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

  • Health and safety
  • Introduction to construction
  • Tiling a plain wall
  • Prepare background and apply rendering
  • Cutting and fixing tiles to wet areas
  • Tiling floors with a border
  • Mixing and using concrete
  • Prepare background and apply finishing coats
  • Make components from mould

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will perfect your skills in practical workshops consisting of purpose-built pods. The pods house everything needed to complete the course, including walls, steps and beading. Each learner will have access to their own pod, for the duration of their time on the course.

  • Portfolio of evidence
  • In class tests
  • Practical demonstrations

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

On successful completion of Level 1 you can seek employment as an Apprentice.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

There are opportunities to demonstrate your skills and abilities through SkillBuild and other related competitions. You'll need your own stationery and personal protective equipment including safety boots and work clothing. All other tools and equipment are provided.

Additional Opportunities

Learners with a grade 4 in English and maths will also study an employability skills qualification.

Learners with a grade 4 in English or maths will study additional units in employability without gaining the full employability qualification.

Learners without a grade 4 in English or maths will study both subjects as part of their Study Programme.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will require a profile of mainly grade 2s (Es) at GCSE including English Language and Maths.
