PAINTING & DECORATING

Duration: 24 Months
Level: Level 2

This course covers a range of techniques that will allow you to become a competent and confident painter and decorator. You will also develop your communication skills and learn about the use of drawings and specifications when on site and the processes involved in the construction of buildings.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The course covers a range of techniques that will allow you to become a good painter and decorator. Examples of areas of study include:

  • Preparation of surfaces and the use of primers
  • Application of paint and methods (brush, roller and spray)
  • Types of paint, hanging wallpaper to a variety of surfaces
  • Application of specialist finishes such as rag rolling and sponging
  • Use of access equipment in painting and decorating (steps, ladders, scaffolds)

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will be taught in the work place but will attend College on a day release basis. At College your lessons will be split between the classroom and workshop.

  • Multiple choice tests
  • End Point Assessment

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

On successful completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship you may be able to progress to a Level 3 qualification. Successful completion of the Level 3 Apprenticeship can lead to continued employment in the trade or self-employment

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

An apprenticeship at level 2 requires you to complete, or be working towards a level 1 in Functional Skills for Maths and English. Depending on your prior attainment level, you may be required to complete an initial assessment to check suitability for entry onto the programme. If you have already achieved GCSE grades at E/2 or above, you may be exempt from completing this as part of the apprenticeship. Please note, that depending on grades previously achieved, you may be expected to upskill towards a level 2 in Functional Skills Maths and/or English. Furthermore, all candidates will have an interview with the Apprenticeship Specialist to assess suitably before being accepted on to an apprenticeship programme.
