CARPENTRY AND JOINERY (SITE CARPENTRY) - LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA

This Level 3 Site Carpentry diploma is ideal for those already working as a site carpenter, who are looking to develop their existing skills and upskill with a higher level qualification. On this course, you will learn advanced skills in site carpentry, and you will develop and practice skills required for employment as well as career progression in this trade.

You will also learn about the industry, and practical skills specific to site carpentry, including how to carry out first fix flooring and roofing, second fixing operations, as well as first fix roofing and stairs. You will also learn how to carry out second fixing double doors and mouldings and how to set up and use fixed and transportable machinery.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

As part of this course you will study a range of units. Mandatory units include:

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction
  • Carry out first fix flooring and roofing
  • Carry out second fixing operations
  • Principles of organising, planning and pricing construction work
  • Carry out first fix roofing and stairs
  • Carry out second fixing double doors and mouldings
  • Set up and use fixed and transportable machinery

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

As a learner at Preston College, you will have a dedicated, workspace where you can develop your practical skills. The workshops replicate a live working environment, using Industry grade materials and equipment. The practical lesson will be held 1 night per week, 6-9pm with approximately 4-8 hours of independent study, via LMS CANVAS.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will be assessed by using a range of controlled multiple choice question papers and practical assessments throughout each module. Students also meet regularly with tutors to help plan studies and discuss progress.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Upon completion of this qualification you will have obtained the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress on to a higher level qualification in the same or similar occupational area. Alternatively, you may wish to use the qualification to progress into supervisory and management positions within the workplace.

Industry will accept this qualification, on its own, as entry into a job role.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

As our Construction Centre reflects industry working practices, you will be required to purchase and wear suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including work boots and overalls (or old clothing).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Whilst there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, learners are advised to take the Level 1 and Level 2 Diplomas in order to ensure they have the right skills and knowledge for Level 3. Alternatively, the learner should provide evidence of significant industry experience.

We will assess your skills by asking you to complete additional questions on application to gain your level of experience, then a practical skills assessment if you hold industry experience.  We require you to be working at a minimum of Entry 3 in English, if you don’t hold an English qualification, you may be required to undertake an assessment.
