This course is designed for individuals wishing to pursue a career as a bricklayer. You will develop your skills and knowledge in preparation for an Apprenticeship at Level 2. Preston College has strong links with the building industry, and we regularly recruit apprentices directly from the workshop.
You will be taught in the Construction Centre with practical areas for a range of brickwork activities. You will also be taught the underpinning knowledge in the classroom.
On successful completion of Level 1 you can progress to Level 2 or seek employment as an Apprentice to complete your training. At Preston College a lot of our learners are recruited by employers from our Level 1 course into an Apprenticeship.
There are opportunities to demonstrate your skills and abilities through SkillBuild and other related competitions. You'll need your own stationery and personal protective equipment including safety boots and work clothing. All other tools and equipment are provided.
Additional Opportunities
Learners with a grade 4 in English and maths will also study an employability skills qualification.
Learners with a grade 4 in English or maths will study additional units in employability without gaining the full employability qualification.
Learners without a grade 4 in English or maths will study both subjects as part of their Study Programme.
You will require a profile of mainly grade 2s (Es) at GCSE including English Language and Maths.
