AAT BOOKKEEPING (MANUAL) - LEVEL 1 AWARD (SEPT 2025 START)

This Level 1 AAT programme provides a flexible introduction to key bookkeeping topics. It is aimed at individuals with little knowledge of bookkeeping but is equally useful to those with some practical knowledge and skills, wishing to gain an accredited qualification in the subject.
Owners of small businesses may also find the course of use as modules covered include understanding financial transactions, processing customer and supplier transactions and processing receipts and payments.
Opportunities for progression are available at Preston College, to those who successfully complete the course.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
As part of this part-time Level 1 course, you will study four modules:
Understanding the role of the bookkeeper
Understanding financial transactions
Processing customer and supplier transactions
Processing receipts and payments
All four modules must be completed and passed to achieve the qualification, with learning via scenario questioning forming a key part of this course. Final assessment is done via an online exam, with all modules helping you to develop the essential skills needed for success in industry.
HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
The nature of this course and the job roles it can lead to make it a classroom based programme, with learning resources including books and websites. Each session is delivered in accordance with industry standards set by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), allowing you to develop the skills and confidence needed to progress onto higher levels of study and into careers within the accounting and finance sectors.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
Upon successful completion of the course, you may wish to consider Level 2 study at Preston College. Courses include Bookkeeping Level 2 Enhanced Certificate and Foundation Certificate in Accounting Level 2.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?
You are required to bring pens, pencils, paper and a calculator to each class. There will also be a requirement to purchase the set AAT textbooks – full details will be supplied on your first day.
Depending upon your personal circumstances, you may be eligible to apply for the college bursary. Full details will be provided at enrolment, in your Welcome Brochure.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
An interest in basic accounts/figures is required. Learners are also required to have achieved English Level 1 or working towards this qulaification.
