This course has been designed for those already working in the sector, looking to upskill with a higher level qualification.

It enables you to demonstrate and recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding whilst carrying out the role of Plasterer within the Construction industry, against a series of National Occupational Standards, whilst also evidencing that your practical skills are supported by underpinning theory.

Successful completion of this course will aid you in demonstrating your competence within industry.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

As part of the programme you will be required to undertake six mandatory units and one optional unit in order to achieve the qualification.

Mandatory units will include:

  • Producing complex external render finishes in the workplace
  • Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships in the workplace
  • Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
  • Confirming work activities and resources for an occupational work area in the workplace
  • Confirming the occupational method of work in the workplace
  • Applying solid plaster to complex internal surfaces in the workplace

An optional unit will be chosen from the following:

  • Running in-situ mouldings in the workplace
  • Installing mechanically fixed plasterboard in the workplace
  • Installing direct bond dry lining systems in the workplace

Additional units can be selected, but completion will not account towards certification, these can include:

  • Producing specialised plaster finishes in the workplace
  • Producing granolithic works in the workplace

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

The course is site based, but all applicants will be required to do a skills scan first, which will determine if you need to undertake any guided study, to develop additional skills. The skills scan is completed with an assessor and will form the basis of your learning, if needed.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course has been designed for those already in employment and as a result you will be assessed against a set of performance and knowledge statements, which have been derived from National Occupational Standards for Plastering.

You will be assessed by an occupationally competent and qualified assessor whose job is to work with you and help you complete your qualification. You will also be required to produce a portfolio of evidence, highlighting how you have met the performance and knowledge criteria for each unit.

In order to achieve the qualification all of the mandatory and set optional units must be passed.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Upon completion of this qualification you will have obtained the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress on to a higher level qualification in the same or similar occupational area. Alternatively, you may wish to use the qualification to progress into supervisory and management positions within the workplace.

Industry will accept this qualification on its own, as entry into a job role.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Whilst there are no formal qualifications required to undertake this course, the programme has been designed for those already in employment, so you must be working as a Plasterer and have both the experience and the skill required for Level 3 study.
