This course aims to enhance already held knowledge and skills to promote progression from basic welding and fabrication skills to a more highly developed understanding of equipment functions, materials and processes. Health and Safety practices, in the context of Welding, will also be explored.
The course is ideal for adults wishing to upskill, already holding some fabrication and welding experience or those looking to progress onto a level 3 technician course, which will ultimately take you onto higher national level study.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Throughout this one year programme you will cover the basics in a range of modules, including:
Health and Safety in a Fabrication and Welding Environment
Materials, Science and Calculations for Fabrication and Welding Practice
Metal-Arc Gas Shielding Welding – (Vertical) Low Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel or Aluminium
Fabrication Processes – Plate (3mm and Above in Thickness)
Fabrication Processes – Sheet Metal (below 3 mm in Thickness)
In order to successfully achieve the qualification, you must meet all of the learning outcomes via the completion of a range of practical tasks, internal assessments and an online multiple-choice examination.
HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
You will be taught in our purpose built fabrication and welding workshop, housed in our multi-million pound iSTEM Centre.
You will have access to your own purpose built welding bay, with industry experienced tutor support and all material will be provided.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Assessment takes place via a range of methods, with the completion of internal assessments after each unit required. Assessments include practical tasks and an online, externally set and assessed multiple choice exam.
You will also be required to complete an internally assessed workbook.
The on-line examination is graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction, with the overall qualification graded as a Pass or Fail.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
Upon completion of this qualification you will have obtained the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress in your employment within a fabrication and welding environment or a manufacturing environment.
