CARPENTRY & JOINERY - LEVEL 1

Level: Level 1

On this Level 1 course in Carpentry and Joinery you will develop your practical skills by learning how to safely use the various tools, techniques, and methods a tradesman would use within the workplace. You will also learn the importance of safe working practices, effectively communicating with others and up-to-date and relevant industry techniques, materials, and equipment in preparation for an Apprenticeship at Level 2. Preston College has strong links with the building industry, and we regularly recruit apprentices directly from the workshop.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

The majority of the programme is dedicated to practical activities, however, there is also classroom based work on health and safety, building methods and construction technology.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

On successful completion of Level 1 you can progress to Level 2 or seek employment as an Apprentice to complete your training. At Preston College a lot of our learners are recruited by employers from our Level 1 course into an Apprenticeship.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

You will be required to provide your own Personal Protective Equipment and basic stationery for use in the classroom.

Additional Opportunities

Learners with a grade 4 in English and maths will also study an employability skills qualification.

Learners with a grade 4 in English or maths will study additional units in employability without gaining the full employability qualification.

Learners without a grade 4 in English or maths will study both subjects as part of their Study Programme.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You’ll need a profile of mainly grade 2 (Es) at GCSE including English Language and maths. You must also show an interest in the subject.
