Beauty Therapy provides a vast range of career pathways, from self-employment to salon work, with numerous opportunities available on the high street, in lesiure facilities, spas, hotels and even aboard luxurious cruise ships!
As a Beauty Therapist, you can expect to meet a wide variety of clients and must enjoy working with people, as you help others to feel great!

All modules will help you to develop the essential skills needed for success in industry.
HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
As a beauty therapy learner at Preston College, you will perfect your skills in our on-site bespoke salon, Elements. The salon is home to a fully furnished beauty salon, containing 11 treatment beds, a hair salon and demonstration workshop, where you will perfect your skills on both fellow learners and paying customers. Paying customers are members of the public who visit Elements for the great prices and customer friendly experience offered by our learners and you are required to complete a treatment on at least one paying customer per unit.
You will spend 50% of the course undertaking practical work, whilst the other half of your time will be spent learning a range of theory, which supports your practical work, including structures of the skin and nails, bones and muscles.
Beyond the classroom and training environment you will have the opportunity to attend ‘Beauty North’ at EventCity in Manchester and World Skills in Birmingham. You will also be given opportunities to hear from guest speakers and participate in competitions, including ‘Create an Image.’
You will also be given a salon services and/or Alan Howard card, to allow you to buy the industry standard products needed.
As our on-site facilities reflect industry working practices, you will be required to purchase and wear the official Elements uniform for your time on the course and adhere to the dress code at all times. This consists of a tunic (£14) and trousers (£14). All uniform can be purchased through Preston College, once you begin your course.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Each unit has a written paper or assignment requirement and a number of practical assessments. You will also develop a portfolio.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
Successful completion of this course may provide opportunities for progression onto the Level 3 Beauty Therapy course at Preston's College.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?
In order to develop your technical skills you will be required to purchase professional equipment, relevant to the course. Depending upon your personal circumstances, this may be fundable by the college bursary The kit will comprise of essential beauty tools, products and a uniform, with more information being provided o you on your first day.
NB: This course involves using chemicals, liquids and aerosols which could be harmful to your health if you have a predisposition to certain skin conditions or allergies, such as occupational dermatitis, eczema or asthma.

You must be over 19 with a minimum grade 4 (c) in English. All applicants are subject to an interview.
