Working in a salon you will learn job specific skills, earn a wage and attend College once a week to gain your qualification. Working in a service industry, you will meet new people and build up regular clients providing advanced services such as colouring, cutting and styling hair.

There are also a number of optional units such as hair colour correction services, creating a variety of permed effects and providing creative hair extension services.
Upon completion, you will have developed the skills and knowledge to work competently in the industry. You could also progress onto a Barbering apprenticeship.
The hairdressing industry is competitive and relies on repeat customers. To be successful you will need the following: appropriate personal presentation, good social and organisational skills, an amicable nature, good sense of humour, willingness to work flexible hours/days and good communication skills.
You will need to wear your salon uniform when attending college.
All Apprenticeships require an initial assessment, interview and employment in the industry. You will need a Level 2 qualification in hairdressing in order to progress onto the Level 3 programme. You will need to have good people, dexterity and communication skills as well as a desire to work professionally with the general public.
