PLASTERING & DRY LINING - LEVEL 1

You will start by learning the very basics of plastering which will include health and safety, tools, equipment and mixing materials. The skills acquired include being able to prepare background surfaces, repair damaged walls, plaster areas and produce finished surfaces using a variety of techniques and materials.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will be taught in the Construction Centre in a purpose built plastering workshop for practical activities. You will also be taught the underpinning knowledge in the classroom.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

On successful completion of Level 1 you can progress to Level 2 or seek employment as an Apprentice to complete your training. At Preston College a lot of our learners are recruited by employers from our Level 1 course into an Apprenticeship.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

There are opportunities to demonstrate your skills and abilities through SkillBuild and other related competitions. You will need your own personal protective equipment including safety boots (you must have these on your first day) and work wear clothing. Although all other tools and equipment are provided, you will need to purchase stationery items for use in the classroom.

Additional Opportunities

Learners with a grade 4 in English and maths will also study an employability skills qualification.

Learners with a grade 4 in English or maths will study additional units in employability without gaining the full employability qualification.

Learners without a grade 4 in English or maths will study both subjects as part of their Study Programme.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You will require a profile of mainly grade 2s (Es) at GCSE including English Language and Maths.
