INTRODUCTION TO FRENCH LANGUAGE

Are you looking to advance your job prospects by learning a new language? Our Introduction to French Language course is designed to help you gain valuable language skills that can boost your employability prospects and open doors to new career opportunities.

Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to refresh your language skills, this interactive and practical course makes learning French enjoyable and accessible, in a supportive and engaging environment, where you'll gain insights into French-speaking cultures, as well as enhancing your ability to work effectively in a diverse range of job roles.   

You'll also learn how to develop essential conversational skills and everyday vocabularly to confidently communicate effectively with French-speaking colleagues, clients and partners. 

 

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

A different topic will be studied each week including:

  • Introduction to French: Greetings, basic conversation, farewells, useful phrases, numbers 1-20
  • Family
  • Likes & Dislikes
  • Places of interest and directions
  • Transport and numbers 21-100
  • Hotels, facilities and complaints
  • Ordering food & drink
  • Going to the doctor, body parts and saying you feel unwell
  • Clothes & colours
  • Lost property

There will also be elements of grammar throughout the course.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

Teaching will take place in the classroom, with worksheets provided for each topic covered. You will be encouraged to keep a portfolio of the work completed each week and we advise that you make additional notes throughout the course to further assist your learning. You will learn independently and in pairs.  

Throughout the course, you will be asked to complete a range of written, spoken and listening exercises, as well as ROTE learning activities including role-plays. Homework will also be set between classes. 

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

There is no formal assessment required for this course but your progress and understanding will be monitored by our experienced tutor who will offer advice, answer any questions posed throughout the session as well as homework tasks set. This will all be carried out in an informal and relaxed manner, creating a fun environment designed to encourage learning.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

On completion of this course, you may wish to continue your studies with our Intermediate French Language programme, or on one of our other language courses available at Preston College. The tutor will discuss your options with you at the end of your course.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, just a willingness to learn.
