With two commercial training salons based on campus, this course will allow you to gain the skills you need using industry standard products and facilities that you could expect to find in any high street salon.
In addition to gaining technical skills in hair care, colouring and cutting, you will develop your social skills of communication by working within a realistic salon environment as part of a salon team with members of the general public as your clients.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
As a trainee stylist at Preston College, you will have access to Elements, our onsite, bespoke Hairdressing salon. This realistic working environment is the ideal place for you to perfect your skills and confidence. Our salons are fully stocked with the equipment and supplies that you need to successfully achieve your qualification.
Experienced hairdressing tutors will provide practical demonstrations and specialised support so that you can develop your skills. Initially you will complete demonstrations on training heads and fellow learners, before being assessed on live models.
Your practical evidence will be supported by knowledge sessions which will explore many topics including the science of hair and colour ratios.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
This qualification will give you the confidence and skills to enter into employment as a junior stylist. It will also give you entry to Level 3 in Hairdressing at Preston College, where you will study advanced techniques in cutting and colouring. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?
We aim to provide a programme that is both engaging and exciting. Our enrichment programme includes;
Entry to external competitions
Talks and demonstrations from external guest speakers
Visits to external hairdressing events.
You are required to wear all black in your salon sessions and comfortable, covered shoes.
All equipment and products will be provided for you in our well stocked salons.
You may choose to purchase your own kit. (optional)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You need four GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above including English Language and maths. The other subject should have a minimum of grade 2. You will also be required to attend an interview to discuss your suitability for the course.
