This course has been designed for those already working in the sector, looking to upskill with a higher level qualification.
It enables you to demonstrate and recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding whilst carrying out the role of Site Carpenter within the Construction industry, against a series of National Occupational Standards, whilst also evidencing that your practical skills are supported by underpinning theory.
As part of this course you will study a range of units. Most units will be mandatory, with three optional units also being studied.
Mandatory units consist of:
You will also study at least two optional units.
The course is site based but all applicants will be required to do a skills scan first, which will determine if you need to undertake any guided study, to develop additional skills. The skills scan is completed with an assessor and will form the basis of your learning, if needed.
This course has been designed for those already in employment and as a result you will be assessed against a set of performance and knowledge statements, which have been derived from National Occupational Standards for Site Carpentry.
You will be assessed by an occupationally competent and qualified assessor whose job is to work with you and help you complete your qualification. You will also be required to produce a portfolio of evidence, highlighting how you have met the performance and knowledge criteria for each unit.
In order to achieve the qualification all of the seven mandatory and two optional units must be passed.
If you are aged 24 or above, live in Lancashire and do not currently hold a full Level 3 qualification, this course will be offered to you free of charge.
Upon completion of this qualification you will have obtained the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress on to a higher level qualification in the same or similar occupational area. Alternatively, you may wish to use the qualification to progress into supervisory and management positions within the workplace.
Industry will accept this qualification, on its own, as entry into a job role.
Whilst there are no formal qualifications required to undertake this course, the programme has been designed for those already in employment, so you must be working as a Site Carpenter and have both the experience and the skill required for Level 3 study.
