This course is designed to develop effective IT user skills and to help you unlock the full potential of your computer and the programmes you use. You will learn essential digital skills to boost your confidence when using a computer, discover new, faster ways to communicate, solve tasks and access information - not only improving your employability and career prospects but your own personal user knowledge too.
The programme runs for 20 weeks and is delivered once a week (3 hour session).
As part of this qualification you will gain:
Digital Skills Progression - Understanding how digital technologies can benefit your employment prospects to help you reach your career/progression goals and the value placed on digital skills by employers - whether that is for personal development, employment, an apprenticeship or to go on to further educational study.
Awareness of Using Digital Technologies - Understanding the role digital technologies play in an ever-changing society.
Advanced Word Processing Skills - You will learn how to modify style and layout to enhance document presentation, how to manipulate images, inserting tables, creating mail merged documents, understanding macros, linking and embedding objects into documents, as well as learning how to password protect a document.
Advanced Spreadsheet Skills - Understanding how to create a spreadsheet to improve productivity and how to use basic and advanced formulae and functions to process data, as well as checking for consistency and accuracy.
Advanced PowerPoint Skills - Creating a presentation for different purposes and audiences, using advanced functionality features such as tables, charts, sound, animation, hyperlinks, transitions and graphics, whilst operating within current legal and ethical contsraints such as copyright, e-Safety and use of appropriate content.
This course is classroom based and you will be taught by highly experienced tutors, all of whom have a passion for IT.
You will be assessed through a range of methods including building a portfolio of evidence and practical skills observations.
This qualification provides a useful progression route into further study or work. For those looking to further develop their digital skills, you could progess onto other related digital skill based courses or other adult courses available at an appropriate level.
This course offers flexible learning options, so you can attain this qualification at your own pace in the Digital Skills Hub (located at Preston College), even while you are already in education or in full-time employment.

Entry requirements for this level of study, include progressing on from the Essential Digital Skills - Level 1 qualification or a good working knowledge in Word Processing and Excel is an advantage.
