Beauty Therapists offer a wide range of treatments in a number of different environments including salons, spas, health and leisure organisations and cruise ships. If you want to wok in this industry, then this course is an ideal starting point to gain the knowledge and technical skills required for employment as a junior beauty therapist.
 

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Throughout the course, you will develop creative technical skills, alongside personal skills of team work and positive client communication.

Mandatory units:

  • Provide facial skin care treatments.
  • Lash and brow treatments
  • Waxing services
  • Manicure treatments
  • Pedicure treatments
  • Work ethics
  • Promotion of services and products to clients
  • Health and safety in the salon

Optional units include;

  • Make-up services
  • Reception duties

Additional courses include:

  • Customer service
  • Preparing to run a beauty therapy business

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

In our onsite, high quality beauty salons, you will be taught by experienced staff who will guide you through the practical and theoretical aspects of this programme, through demonstrations of technical skills and coursework.

Your time on the programme will be shared between practical workshops, where you will practice your skills on fellow learners, theory sessions where you will learn subject related to anatomy and physiology and product knowledge and commercial salon time. This is where you will demonstrate your creative skills on live models.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Your understanding of knowledge will be assessed through course work and online examinations. While, technical skills, communication and professionalism with clients will be assessed within the salon. Assessment methods also include:

  • Practical Assessments & Tasks

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Career opportunities as a junior beauty therapist exist in a variety of contexts, including:

  • Commercial beauty salons
  • Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
  • Beauty retail concessions

You may also choose to develop your skills further by undertaking qualifications in Beauty Therapy or Nail Technology at Level 3.

Apprenticeship options are also available inlcuding Beauty Therapy - Level 2 or Advanced Beauty Therapy - Level 3

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

We aim to provide a programme of study which is both engaging and exciting. Our enrichment offer includes:

  • Entry to regional and national competitions
  • Guest speakers from the beauty therapy industry
  • External visits to beauty therapy related events

You are required to wear a beauty therapy tunic and trousers in your salon sessions and comfortable, covered shoes. The uniform will be ordered for you when you start College.

All the equipment and products you need to complete the programme will be provided in our well stocked, professional salons.

You will have the option to purchase your own kit if you choose.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

You need four GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above including English Language and maths. You will also need good people, communication and dexterity skills as well as the desire to work with the general public in a professional manner.
