BARBERING - LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE

Duration: 20 Weeks
Level: Level 2

The Level 2 Barbering Certificate is ideal for those looking to take the first steps into the barbering profession. Providing the skills and confidence needed to both work and progress, the course covers four essential modules, including cutting, styling and health and safety.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will study four essential modules:

  • Health and Safety
  • Consultations with clients
  • Cutting men’s hair
  • Cutting facial hair

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

You will learn your craft in our on-site, industry standard Barbershop, furnished with 14 barbers chairs and bespoke work stations, where you will practice your skills on your own models. Many learners use friends and relatives as practice models. In order to advance your professional practice you will work with models throughout your programme, for practice and assessment purposes.

Whilst you won’t be required to purchase a specific uniform, as our Barbershop reflects industry practice, you will be required to wear all-black whilst in the Barbershop.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Assessment will be carried out during the course by an assessor observing and questioning your practical work. You will also complete written tests and assignments. All practical work (including assessments) must be carried out on clients, which you will be asked to provide. It is a requirement of the course that no less than 90% attendance is required to ensure success.

HOW MUCH WILL THIS COURSE COST?

You will need to purchase a uniform (black tunic/black t shirt for males, black trousers and shoes) and a barbering kit (includes scissors, clippers, lining out clippers, dryer, combs, brushes etc.). Please speak to an advisor for the latest costs.

*This programme can also be funded – eligibility criteria applies.

You can study this course part-time with evening and daytime study options available. For more information on times, dates and availabilty please speak to an advisor.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

Successful completion of this course allows progression to a full NVQ Level 2 in Barbering/Hairdressing, or to other NVQ Level 2 unit qualifications.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

In order to develop your technical skills you will be required to purchase professional equipment. The college recognises that a financial outlay can be worrying to some but did you know that you may be entitled to financial support from the college bursary. Full details of required kit will and the funding available will be discussed during your application and interview process.
