College Learners Travel the World

Preston’s College learners have travelled more than 14,000 miles in the past month to represent Lancashire’s young people across the globe.

Dance learners headed to New York to tread the boards in a workshop with cast members from Jersey Boys, and watch a performance of the show. They also learned routines from the hit musical, Pretty Woman, based on the 1990 award winning film. They also visited Times Square and the Empire State Building, and after five days in the Big Apple, they returned home full of inspiration and determined to pursue their performance careers.

Meanwhile, Level 3 Aeronautical Engineering students visited the Airbus A380 Manufacturing facilities in Toulouse, France as part of an enriched learning experience. The site in the South of France is one of the world’s most advanced aircraft engineering and manufacturing operations and provided excellent industry insights for the learners.

The College’s Football Academy jetted off on an eight day trip to Phoenix, Arizona to compete in the annual President’s Day Football Tournament. For almost 20 years the College have going head-to-head with teams around the world, this year being one of 434 elite teams chosen to take part in the annual competition which attracts scouts from some of the leading MSL clubs. The academy are also shortlisted for this year’s Preston Sports Awards Team of the Year with the awards ceremony taking place at Preston Guild Hall on 22nd March.

Mick Noblett, vice principal Curriculum, Delivery and Planning, at Preston’s College said: “At Preston’s College we aim to develop the most employable learners. Providing ways to enrich their learning experience and broaden their horizons by showing them where their potential career path can take them, is an essential part of our role.

“For our dancers, the opportunity to work with the stars of Broadway and develop their performance skills is invaluable. It is great that our engineering learners can meet industry professionals and see the practical application of their learning.

“Each year we provide our aspiring footballers with the chance to play in the President’s Day Tournament with many former learners going on to take up scholarships in the States. It is experiences like this that provides learners with invaluable enrichment beyond the classroom.”
