Preston’s College learner wins prestigious prize

Preston’s College learner, Holly Bilsborough, has been awarded the prestigious Dean’s Award from the University of Derby which recognises students whose academic performance is in the top 10% of their programme.

Holly is in the second year of a Foundation degree in Children and Young People’s Services at Preston’s College, which is accredited by the University of Derby. The University is in the top 20% of all providers in the UK for the quality of its teaching according to the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

Mum of three Holly, who lives in Bamber Bridge, explains: “I’m really chuffed with this award, and it makes all my hard work and effort worthwhile. It’s a challenge to juggle the children, my work and voluntary placement, but I’m loving my course and am determined to get this qualification and progress onto a top-up degree, then onto a PGCE or potentially start teaching in a support role.

“The course has been flexible and I’m able to access resource materials out of hours so I can fit my studies around my work and home life.”

Alison Humphreys, head of quality said: “We are extremely proud of Holly and her excellent academic achievement. She was recognised by her tutors and course leaders and this award will highlight to potential employers her dedication, commitment and success in her studies.”

Holly was presented with her award by the Dean at a prestigious evening ceremony on December 6th at the University of Derby.
