Preston’s College Remembrance Activities

Ahead of Armistice Day on Sunday 11th November, learners and staff at Preston’s College came together as one during a day of poignant Remembrance activities across campus.

At 11am, the College observed a two-minute silence in the sports hall including an extract of ‘For the Fallen’ by College principal and chief executive, Dr Lis Smith.

The college’s renowned Visual Performing Arts and Sports Performance (VPAS) department then led on a range of activities featured around the theme ‘100 years’, to commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War.

There were also touching striking art exhibitions in the College’s main reception and Tate building which were linked up with an 80m poppy chain (pictured right) created by learners from across College.

Performing Arts learners (pictured bottom with College Principal, Lis Smith) also got into character to share a range of emotional ‘Soldiers’ Letters’ from the Great War.

Meanwhile, Dance learners performed their own Remembrance piece in the reception area.

Every year in November, the nation marks the wars that have scarred our past and the bravery of the men and women who fought them. Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday, which both fall on Sunday November 11 this year, are a chance to remember not just those who fought, but what they fought for.

This year is particularly poignant as it marks 100 years since the end of the First World War.
