Learners involved in Breast Cancer Awareness month
Preston’s College learners are getting involved in Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout October, raising money and awareness of the disease which 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with in their lifetime.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in the UK, with more than 5,000 women diagnosed in October alone. The worldwide annual awareness campaign aims to highlight the importance of breast awareness, education and research.
- One person is diagnosed with every 8 minutes.
- In the UK, every year around 11,500 people die from breast cancer.
- A survey by Breast Cancer Care found that 33% of women aren’t regularly checking.
Preston’s College learners, studying courses including Level 3 Health & Social Care and Children & Young People’s Services foundation degree, came up with various ways to raise funds through bake-and-buy sales and creating interactive quizzes.
Learners aimed to provide engaging and educational ways of informing people of the disease’s symptoms, to allow better understanding of how to they can identify the symptoms early.
