Preston College offer three pathways for young people who have no formal education, are home schooled or have no qualifications. The Future Ready pathways are designed to provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills, build their confidence and prepare them for further study.
Students and pathways are matched to ensure that each individual has the best chance of success. Students can transfer between pathways and can progress to further study. This will need to be discussed and agreed with tutors and college support staff. More information on each pathway can be found below.
The transition pathway is designed for students who have no formal educational experience or have been home-schooled with an initial assessment result of Entry Level 2 or below.
The key focus is on skills development in core areas such as maths, English and science, employment skills, and confidence building.
The transition pathway has a reduced timetable and aims to prepare students for progression into a technical area of study at Preston College.
The technical pathway is designed for students who have no qualifications or those who require a high level of support.
The key focus is on developing practical skills for an industry area that can be applied in the world of work. It will also have an element of personal development with a focus on ambition, accountability, and aspiration.
The technical pathway has a dynamic timetable to meet individual goals and aims to prepare students for progression to college course in a technical area or an apprenticeship.
The community learning pathway involves training and education taking place within community settings. This pathway provides an opportunity for students to re-enter education through industry projects that take place outside the traditional classroom.
While each project will be different, the key focus of each will be to develop practical industry skills and knowledge. Student will also undertake personal development to improve their resilience, communication, and teamwork skills.
The community pathway opportunities will vary depending on the industry and project; however, the overall goal is to prepare students for further study at college on in an apprenticeship.
