The Most Autumn Winter 2021/2022
LOUISE DOSWELL PRINCIPAL AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE As we begin a new year, it is a time to not only reflect on the year we have left behind but to be curious as to what the year ahead will bring us. Within the education arena, the weeks pass by so quickly and new opportunities and challenges appear at our campus doors more often than not. As education leaders, we find ourselves working on varying educational policy developments to keep pace with the fast-moving landscape, to ensure our learners obtain the very best in teaching, learning and support. As a college we have to be ready; ready to change, ready to adapt and ready to transform. In many ways we did just that when we collectively went through the first stages of the global pandemic. The one constant focus that will always prevail will be our learners, their experience, their outcomes and their futures. Equally, we have to be ahead of the education agenda for our employer partners who, now more than ever, need an FE college to provide relevant curriculum, flexible delivery methods and to provide them with a pipeline of industry-ready learners who have qualified with the most up-to-date skills, behaviours and knowledge for their industry. This issue of The Most is a perfect place to learn how Preston College and its community ensure that all of the above are met. The introduction of T-Levels back in September has provided learners with the opportunity to undertake a 45 day extended industry placement with an employer partner who will support, mentor and enhance their knowledge and technical skills in a workplace context. I would like to give thanks to all our employer partners who have worked with us to ensure our learners gain valuable experience in their chosen profession and special thanks goes to our employer partners Westair Flying Services, Incorez and John Turner who all found the time to support the college’s Industry Placement Week and are featured within this issue. We also celebrated Colleges Week (#LoveOurColleges); a wonderful week in the Further Education calendar that celebrates the success stories of our learners and employers. It allows colleges to showcase how we work collaboratively within the community, forging long-standing relationships with leading organisations. Lastly, I am delighted to announce the launch of our new partnership with Bowker Motor Group. This innovative partnership will see Preston College and the Bowker Motor Group, work together to provide apprentices with high-quality training, delivery and assessment, whilst continuing to use the college’s industry-standard workspaces. I would like to wish you all the very best for 2022, a year of newly forged and strengthening partnerships, inspiration, innovation and success.
