MAKING OUR LEARNERS THE MOST EMPLOYABLE! Mike – Level 2 Barbering Diploma Completing the Level 2 Barbering course and progressing into industry allowed Mike to do things he just couldn’t do before. He has been able to make plans and improve his standard of living, buy a property and welcome a baby girl into the world. Mike credits the course at Preston College and the opportunities it has presented and opened up with changing his life. James - Engineering Fitter Level 3 Apprenticeship, Employer: Leyland Trucks Keen to begin a career at Leyland Trucks, 19 year old James joined Preston College as a school leaver on a Level 2 Engineering course. As part of his programme, James undertook work experience at Leyland Trucks and upon completion, successfully applied for an apprenticeship with the company. Starting in September 2019, James now spends 12 week blocks at Preston College, developing his engineering manufacturing skills and learning from a variety of industry experienced tutors. With future plans to progress into management, James hopes to secure a full-time role at Leyland Trucks upon successful completion of his Level 3 apprenticeship. Robert – FdSc and BSc (Hons) Counselling With voluntary experience at a range of national organisations, including Samaritans and Mind, Robert completed the FdSc Counselling in 2019. With the support of staff, hard work and outstanding placement reviews, not only has Robert progressed onto the BSc (Hons) Top-up degree but he has secured paid employment as a Bank Counsellor within the NHS. Cheryl – Construction Multiskills After seeing the new, female multiskills course advertised on social media and with a keen interest in DIY, Cheryl decided to join the programme to develop her skills in a range of trades. Keen to show that you can do whatever you like, regardless of gender or age, Cheryl has already found a new love of bricklaying and is looking forward to moving onto the plastering rotation.
