The Level 3 Diploma is suitable for individuals employed in the automotive sector, already holding a relevant level 2 qualification or with significant industry experience. Alongside the development of transferable skills, learners on this course will study principles in-depth, as they begin to understand not only what has gone wrong with a vehicle but are also able to actively find solutions to those problems.
This course builds upon the knowledge developed at Level 1 and Level 2 with the inclusion of diagnosing complex system faults and advanced systems operations.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?
You will be taught in the automotive workshop by industry experienced tutors, working on real cars with state-of-the art equipment.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
This qualification is assessed using a range of methods appropriate for this level of technical qualification, set by City and Guilds, including practical skills assessments, written assignments and online tests.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
This qualification provides a high level of underpinning knowledge and skill, which enables progression onto some higher education qualifications in automotive and engineering related subjects. It also provides the foundation for progression on to the MOT Level 2 Award (New Testers), dependent upon additional eligibility criteria.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?
For workshop activities, you will need to purchase suitable overalls and work boots.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For individuals that have completed an Automotive Level 2 qualification with Preston College, your current performance on programme will be considered and if appropriate, you will be required to undertake a formal written assessment, to assess your academic ability at Level 3 standard.
Applicants who have studied and achieved an Automotive Level 2 qualification elsewhere, you will attend an interview and be required to undertake a formal written assessment, to assess your academic ability at Level 3 standard.
Applicants who have no formal automotive qualifications, but are currently/have recently been employed within the industry, you will attend an interview and be required to undertake a formal written assessment, to assess your technical competence and academic ability at Level 3 standard. For direct entry from industry, you will be required to have circa five years technical experience within the sector, dependent upon the nature of employment and technical proficiency.
